Our Green Credentials

At ISL we are committed to taking responsibility for environmentally friendly computing - as described below:

Our Components:
All components chosen for ISL computers meet the RoHS classification (restriction of hazardous substances directive) which ensures that poisonous elements (such as lead & mercury) are removed to cause less environmental damage once they reached end of life (EOL) and are disposed of.  http://www.rohs.gov.uk

Our Processors:
Our recommended cpu’s are Intel’s Core 2 Duo processor. This new generation of CPU is far more power efficient (with increased performance) than the traditional Pentium 4, using less electricity than previous generations and less peripheral power draw as well so case cooling fans are not required for standard builds.  This also makes for a quieter machine, reducing office background noise & making the working environment more pleasant for employees.  http://www.intel.com/performance/desktop/eep.htm

Our Power Supplies:
There is a new standard called 80PLUS which ensures that all products marked with it maintain 80% or greater energy efficiency.  http://www.80plus.org/80what.htm

Why Go Green?

As well as the ethical considerations, tt is good to consider how much your business could save and help the environment, simply by switching things off!

Although many people do stick to turning their PCs off at the end of the day, there is a significant amount of people who leave their monitors on standby. A TFT monitor typically uses 1 watt of energy when on standby in comparison to 25 watts when in use. If you consider that the average office will have at least 10 computers, leaving monitors switched on standby all year round wastes at least 28.6kg of CO2 – the equivalent of travelling 580km, or from London to Edinburgh, by train! Switching a computer off for an hour lunch break every day would save 7.8 kWh of electricity over a year which is equal to 3.6kg of CO2.

Many offices have large photocopiers, printers and scanners that clunk away all day but continue to hum all night until they’re needed again the next day. Turning them off gives them chance to cool down and again saves money on energy bills. [Source: The Green Village]
